Premature twins home for Christmas after months in hospital
FOR their parents, it is the best Christmas present ever. Baby twins Kieran and Oliver Cowley will enjoy the big day at home tomorrow after spending most of their lives in hospital following their premature births. Wrapped up in bandages, surrounded by breathing and feeding tubes and confined to a small incubator for weeks, doctors warned Lauren Cowley and Greg Hiscock that they should prepare themselves for the worst when they were born 15 weeks early. Weighing just 2lb each - and both suffering from premature lung disease, the twins spent months in Southampton's Princess Anne Hospital after they were born in July. "It was terrifying," said Greg, 27. "The doctors just didn't know if they would pull through and they couldn't tell us for sure that they would be OK." Mum Lauren, 22, said it was heartbreaking not to be able to hold her babies when they were born.

Curtain Call
The play, not so much. Reviewed by Davina Grace Hill Apocalyptic Butterflies, now playing at the Bay Theatre Company in Annapolis, flutters around its themes but ultimately never lands the apocalyptic punch the title has set us up to expect. It is quite funny, with many laugh-out-loud moments effective because of the writing, but it lacks the depth and heart to make it matter much past the curtain call. In the best scene, one character tells another one that all her moments in life are like dots strung on a timeline. That is exactly how this comedy plays out: focused on the dots of important moments rather than the more important, messy and fragile part: the string of actions connecting the important moments. Over the course of three days leading up to Christmas, Apocalyptic Butterflies shows us the world of Hank Tater (played by Brandon McCoy) and his wife Muriel (Kate Williams).

After just a couple months of living in it, though, I find I'm falling in love with this undistinguished - and indistinguishable – house, despite its lack of pedigree. Life within its un-historic confines is proving to be surprisingly freeing. My neighbors have windows made from 200-year-old hand-blown glass and chimneys wide as redwoods, but I feel no sense of envy toward these historically significant Joneses. I drive past centuries of style with every supermarket run, and return to my 1960s Cape on its concrete-block foundation, knowing that if a pipe bursts or an electrical outlet shorts out, I won't need an architectural-history degree to make things right again. My last two homes in Chicago each had their own unique historical aspects, each an example of a classic style unique to that city's storied design past.
Rosacea: No laughing matter
Rosacea can manifest as anything from a blushy red face to pimples or bumps, a red nose like W.C. Fields, or eye inflammation. The bulbous red nose of the late entertainer W.C. Fields, seen above in a "David Copperfield" movie poster, has been attributed to a form of rosacea, called rhinophyma, not to his heavy-drinking lifestyle. Presbyopia
When you can't hold a book far enough away to focus on the words, or your eyes and head hurt when doing close-up work, you've likely got this midlife problem. The crystalline lens of your eye has lost its flexibility to focus on nearby objects. Presbyopia isn't a disease and there's no known prevention. It affects everyone, typically in your 40s or 50s. The solution is to wear magnifying reading glasses for close-up vision, or bifocals, trifocals, progressive lenses or contact lenses. As the ability to focus up close worsens, your prescription will change. Dry eye
Women, in particular, tend to experience eye irritation caused by changes to the thin film of tears needed on the surface of your eyes for good vision.
