Study Finds LASIK Safe For Severe Myopia

More than 18 million people have had LASIK surgery on their eyes to correct vision problems since the early 1990s.

According to a new study in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the choice has been a safe one for people with severe myopia, also known as nearsightedness.

Researchers from Miguel Hernandez University in Spain looked at long-term results for 118 patients, who had surgery on 196 eyes. .

Florida Finds Itself Becoming Less Popular

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The Sunshine State is losing some of its luster.

New census data shows that last year the number of people who moved to Florida from other states outnumbered those who left by more than 35,000 -- down from about 268,000 in 2005. It was just the second year since 1990, when the census started keeping such records, that the state saw fewer than 50,000 net U.S. arrivals.

Experts blame the trend on a combination of circumstances: A bursting real estate bubble, steep insurance and property tax bills and a climbing unemployment rate.

A recent Mason-Dixon poll found 43 percent of Floridians said their quality of life was declining and 37 percent believe the decline will continue in the next year. One in three said they'd tell a friend or loved one not to move here; one in five said they're seriously considering a move.

On the other hand the Chief Minister is also keen that his supporters are adjusted, especially Ravinder Singh Ravi from Kangra and Dr Rajiv Bindal from Solan district.

Though state BJP chief Jai Ram Thakur is not strictly considered in either the Shanta or Dhumal camp he could also get inducted, with the party making a comeback under his presidentship.

With the BJP making a clean sweep in Kullu and Solan, at least one minister each would have to be inducted from here.

Representation will also have to be given to at least one of the four women MLAs who have won on the BJP ticket this time along with a tribal getting representation in the ministry.

The list is impressive, if not for the names, but for the fact that most of the rich families donate through their foundations.

I wonder how many of their grassroots supporters have foundations?

Along with the Alliance's long overdue financial disclosure this week, came stupefying political analysis by the head guy, Chuck Vinick, that the election of Deval Patrick had nothing to do with his (the latter's) support of Cape Wind, notwithstanding the fact that Patrick out-polled opponents of the project from both parties, in both the primary and the general, on Cape Cod as well as statewide.

He sounded as if Deval Patrick would have been his candidate of choice too, if, of course, it wasn't for his, the latter's, embrace of the wind farm. That is if Vinick actually voted here.

Vinick's financial contributions in the Governor's race, to Christy Mihos, and Tom Reilly before that, has his home address listed as Santa Barbara, California.
