| Lehman unit in Littleton cutting jobs
Lehman Brothers Inc. said Thursday it will cut 1,300 jobs as it "substantially" scales back its residential mortgage origination business. The company's Aurora Loan Services unit, which is based in Littleton, will see the suspension of its wholesale and correspondent lending activities. Aurora Loan Services will continue its direct lending channel, and will continue to service its existing customers. The regional operations centers Aurora Loan Services has in Lake Forest, Calif., Sunrise, Fla., and Florham Park, N.J., will be closed. The company will consolidate its Colorado operations at the Littleton office. Lehman said it will take a one-time, after-tax charge of about $40 million, partly due to severance costs. Started in 1997, Aurora Loan Services has more than 2,000 employees, according to the company's website.

Simon's Big Give
He's been tagged as "Mr Nasty"... But Simon Cowell is actually a big old softy at heart. Forget everything you thought you knew and listen to his latest news... He's been doing a lot of soul-searching of late. Yes, he's still got one, he didn't sell it to the little red man with horns. He's decided to donate a mahoosive amount to charity - but not £1m or £5m. Nope, he's said to be handing over a whopping £90m. Si, thought to be worth £100m, will donate to a mix of children's and animal causes. It seems his mum, Julie, got his cogs turning over on his hol in Barbados at Christmas. He told The Sun: "Mum asked, 'Have you ever made a will?' I said, 'Thanks a lot.' But it got me thinking." But his family will still have a little something handed over.
Body Check
Whereas we were only intermittently successful at overcoming the biometrics barrier when using the breathing or the water bag method our success rate with the adhesive film technique when the latent fingerprints were of good quality was almost one hundred percent. According to Siemens especially designed algorithms of the security software belonging to the package check whether the currently scanned fingerprint in terms of its position and angle coincides within certain predetermined tolerances with the last registered version of the print. This is supposed to prevent the system from being taken in by all attempts based on latent image reactivation or replay. According to a statement from Munich the company could not conceive of a reason why their procedure should have failed when we tested it.

Abortion battle shifts from rallies to ballots
Only a few months after Alito was confirmed on Jan. 31, 2006, South Dakota passed a law to ban abortion, but a referendum to put it in place was rejected by voters because it did not provide exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest. .

The Vision Of The Future Seen In Bionic Contact Lens
Parviz said the health care field also might benefit from the technology. "How do we constantly monitor someone's health?" he said. "It turns out that a lot of indicators that tell if a person is healthy or not show up on the surface of the eye." A biosensor-equipped lens could provide a non-invasive way of gleaning that information and sending it on to a database or serving as a relay station for data or power from retinal implants designed to correct vision problems. Microfabrication technique One of the first big obstacles for the team was resolving the fundamental incompatibility between the fabrication process for microchips and light-emitting diodes and the types of polymers used for contact lenses. To get around the issue, the researchers first constructed electronic circuits from ultra-thin metal layers - each only one-thousandth the width of a human hair - and fashioned diodes so small that nearly 100 could fit within an inch.
